Do dentures require maintenance?

Yes, your dentures are a worthwhile investment that should be cared for and maintained regularly. We recommend an annual examination in which Drs. Gulbransen or Recksiedler can update your medical and dental profile and provide you with an excellent denture fit and performance. Take a look at our overview of denture exams and maintenance for more guidance on the secret to well-maintained dentures.

How do I care for my dentures?

Denture care is of utmost importance if you desire to maintain optimal use and function of your dentures.  Regular rinsing and daily cleaning are imperative. For more information, check out these tips!

Should I alter my diet to accommodate my dentures?

Rather than restricting diet, we advise our patients to just be careful. In fact, we believe that all foods are permissible—but it takes practice! If you’d like some additional help, don’t hesitate to call us and make an appointment with one of our San Diego denture specialists. San Diego Office Phone Number 619-463-3773

How important is it for me to remove my dentures at night?

The reason we recommend removing your dentures at night is because it gives your oral tissues a break. The key is finding a time in your schedule to plan for rest periods, so any time during each 24-hour period is adequate.

My dentures are causing an irritating rub. What can I do?

This is not an uncommon problem, and it can be easily remedied. One of our experienced patient care coordinators would be happy to arrange an appointment to adjust your dentures and relieve your discomfort immediately. Your comfort is important to us.  Call us! I am wondering if the adhesives I’m using are bothering my gums. What can I do about it?

There are several adhesive-related factors that may be contributing to your discomfort. If your dentures were designed at our San Diego office, they probably do not require any adhesives unless you’re using them to get used to new dentures. You may want to ask yourself these questions:

  • Why am I using adhesives?
  • Am I using them out of habit?
  • Do they really work effectively, keeping my dentures in place?
  • Am I using too many?
  • Are my dentures old or damaged?

Our prosthodontists would be happy to discuss the potential causes of discomfort with you. We also proudly recommend Snap-On dentures which secure a snug fit and require no adhesives.

Help! I broke my dentures!

We understand the urgency you must be feeling, but fear not! We are proud to have a state-of-the-art in-house laboratory that allows us to fix your dentures immediately, While-U-Wait. Please call us right away so we can get you and your smile back out on the road and on with your life. We strongly urge you not to fix your dentures yourself or wear them damaged.

I think my dentures have gotten looser since I first got them. Can I tighten them?

Since your initial fitting, your gum tissues have changed which will affect the way your dentures fit. This is normal. We recommend you have your dentures professionally relined every 1-2 years to ensure a secure and functional fit. Read more about denture relines here.

How often should I come back in for new dentures?

Denture wearers usually come back every 4-6 years for a new set. Call us to schedule an evaluation at our San Diego office today! San Diego Office Phone Number 619-463-3773
