Implant-Supported Fixed Dentures

At SAN DIEGO PROSTHODONTICS, Dr. Harold Gulbransen is proud to offer the latest technology in fabricating implant-supported fixed dentures.  An implant-supported fixed denture replaces teeth when all or most of the teeth are missing in a patient’s upper or lower jaw.  This type of restoration is sometimes used when a patient cannot tolerate their palate being totally covered by a conventional denture and they have enough bone required to place implants. The implant-supported fixed denture is a prosthesis that is supported by and attached to implants.  A strong titanium framework is attached with screws to implants that have been placed in the jawbone.  The replacement denture teeth are processed to this titanium framework which is screw-retained.  This prosthesis is not removable by the patient and affords increased stability and preserves remaining bone.

It is now possible for Dr. Gulbransen to provide his patients with custom-designed implant-based dental frameworks and bars.  Each bar and framework is individually fabricated using a proprietary process and CAD-CAM technology to match each individual patient’s anatomy.  Custom-designed bars and frameworks offer unsurpassed fit, comfort, and aesthetics.

This process combines the experience and prosthodontic expertise of Dr. Gulbransen with the innovation of biomedical engineers.  First, Dr. Gulbransen takes an impression of the patient’s mouth and makes a precise dental model.  Next a biomedical engineer scans this cast using CAD design software to provide a precise design for the framework or bar.  The 3-dimensional, high-resolution scanned image of the framework is emailed to Dr. Gulbransen for his approval.  Specialized software allows him to make changes in the design in a virtual environment prior to milling the framework.

Once the custom-design is finalized, the framework is milled from a single piece of titanium alloy to allow for superior strength.  The finished product is a natural-colored bar or framework that provides a more natural, aesthetic look for the finished restoration.  Once Dr. Gulbransen receives this custom framework from the dental lab, he can then process a custom denture incorporating it into the final product.

SAN DIEGO PROSTHODONTICS enjoys a fully equipped prosthetic laboratory on premises, staffed with two full-time, experienced dental laboratory technicians. This ensures complete control and timely delivery of dental prostheses.  To determine if you are a candidate for an implant-supported fixed denture, please contact our office for an appointment and evaluation by Harold Gulbransen, DDS.
